My Personal Journey With Undiagnosed Hypothyroidism

As a young individual struggling with undiagnosed hypothyroidism, life was anything but straightforward. This affected post graduate education, social opportunities, personal relationships with my girlfriend at the time who is now the mother of our baby daughter, and career beginnings, I often felt left behind. My health challenges meant that I couldn’t participate in the activities that most people my age took for granted.

I frequently had to decline invitations from friends and family. Not because I didn’t want to be there, but because my body simply couldn’t keep up. Fatigue, brain fog, and physical weakness shaped my world. What should have been a season of growth and freedom was instead defined by limitation and frustration.

Sadly, this experience is not unique to me. Many people with undiagnosed hypothyroidism live in this silent prison,  unable to work, study, or engage in social interactions. The invisible weight of their symptoms keeps them from fully living their lives.




The Frustrations of Failed Treatments

Motivated by desperation and the hope of relief, I spent large sums of money chasing solutions outside conventional medicine. I explored homeopathy. I invested in high-dose vitamin and mineral regimens. I experimented with specialised diets,  including protocols targeting candida overgrowth and parasite elimination.

But none of these methods worked. Each failed attempt left me more depleted,  not just physically, but financially and emotionally.

Through my work as a nutritional and metabolic counsellor, I’ve since seen this same cycle repeat itself in countless others.
