Why I prioritise Vitamin A over co-factors for hypothyroid cases

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped glan, located in the neck. There is big talks about metabolism in health circles these days and the thyroid gland controls our metabolism. This is the rate in which food is burned to create energy.  Traditionally it is treated with thyroid replacement medications but there are min fact nutrients that if out of balance can negatively impact the thyroid. read below to find out some unconventional ways to reduce stress due to hyperthyroidism. Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for production of thyroid hormone and its utilisation.

It secretes two of the main thyroid hormones into the blood stream, L-Thyroxine (T4) which is the available hormone and roughly 10 percent of the Tri-Iodo-Thyronine or Lio-Thyronine (T3). The thyroid gland manufactures these from one molecule of tyrosine an amino acid, and iodine. In the case of T4 it is four iodine atoms per tyrosine molecule and for T3 it is three iodine atoms.

Whilst there are many co-factors and herbal medicine that helps stimulate the thyroid, without Vitamin A it can not be an effective treatment, lets discuss why.

Vitamin A

What many don’t realise is that cholesterol must be converted to anti-aging steroids: DHEA, progesterone and pregnenolone, with vitamin A and thyroid hormones. It is also interesting to note that most female clients I work with have poor thyroid function and eat a diet with low to no vitamin A. They get beta-carotene a precursor from carrots but no retinol as their edits have reduced, eggs, butter, cod liver oil, liver and animal foods. Therefore with low thyroid secretion these steroids are not manufactured in required amounts. When thyroid secretion is inadequate, these steroids cannot be produced in adequate amounts.

Vitamin A metabolises and regulates thyroid hormone metabolism. It inhibits thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) secretion which can reduce the risk of subclinical hypothyroidism(1).

Why Vitamin A is so essential amongst the myriad of other nutrients & co-factors?

Whilst there are many minerals and nutrients are involved, in the manufacture as well such as selenium, magnesium & zinc. Yet without Vitamin A you can not utilise the thyroid hormones. This is why fundamental nutrition is my primary focus at my Harley street London root case functional nutrition clinic to improve ones foundational ancestral nutrition toe sure you are at least covering the basics of pre-formed vitamin A food that is absorbed better.  Then if we suspect poor utilisation we will focus on co-factors needed. Then we can consider thyroid secretion stimulation but there is no point unless you have ample vitamin A.

Pituitary Support

The pituitary gland sends signals via TSH to the thyroid to regulate production . Vitamin A deficiency can impact thyroid health as its deficiency can limit the amount of secretion of TSH and pituitary synthesis (2). It can limit the amount of thyroid uptake by the thyroid gland and increase the size of the thyroid gland.

Deficiency leads to autoimmune reactions

Deficiency in this vital vitamin is also said to contribute to the onset of autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto’s Disease, which underlies many hypothyroid cases.

1 to 1 professional support?

Whilst knowledge is power, sometimes we cant do it alone, either there is too much information, we need someone to coach us, we dont even know exactly what our issue is, or we are dissatisfied with the service of the consultants we have seen thus far. If this sounds like you, worry no more.

My Four-Pillar Protocol is designed to heal you on four planes, the physical is the bulk of our work together (Nutrition + Exercise + Grounding + Therapeutics), yet we will also touch on the emotional (Self-enquiry, Experiential-therapy, Connection to others + Objectivity to emotions), the Mental (Perspective + Meditation + Goals + Objectivity to thought), & the Spiritual ( Connection to higher self & all + Gratitude + Breath-work to reconnect.)

It is assumed a nutritionist will force someone on a diet, this could not be further from the truth. Rather we work to change how you perceive and eat food, learning about its many healing properties to lead to long term sustainable positive change in your health and well-being.
